Statue toppled - This is/was the only confederate monument in DC, located across from a police station.
The statue stood near Judiciary Square, and was set on fire Friday evening. The sculpture was erected in 1901 and was DC’s only outdoor Confederate statue. Members of the DC Council have been trying to remove the statue of Pike since 1992.
Albert Pike (December 29, 1809 – April 2, 1891) was an American author, poet, orator, jurist and prominent member of the Freemasons. He was also a senior officer of the Confederate States Army who commanded the District of Indian Territory in the Trans-Mississippi Theater of the American Civil War.
